Flash Animator
In this
course, students will learn how to create a Macromedia Flash movie and
animated Gif images to enhance the appearance of their website. They
will create objects using shape tools, inserting text and images. They
will then manipulate the objects in their respective layers, inserting
sound and design motion to create a impressive short movie clip. They
also learn how to create navigation buttons and working with simple
ActionScript commands. The result, an engaging website.

Digital Artist
In
Digital Artist, students ages 10 and older will learn the basic skills
they need to create exciting digital art. Using the CorelDRAW12 suite
of graphic applications (CorelDRAW12 and Corel PHOTO-PAINT12), the
pupils will master one of the top-rated graphics packages on the
market.
The
curriculum offers creative expression within challenging projects. In
Digital Artist, the students drawing and painting techniques, learn to
express their creativity on a computer, learn to distinguish and to use
appropriate graphics file formats, export images in appropriate formats
for the World Wide Web, and create art using drawing and painting
applications.

Pet Shop Camp
The
purpose of Pet Shop is to introduce desktop publishing, wordprocessing,
spreadsheets, graphics and multimedia skills to three through eight
year olds. To accomplish this task, the children will run and operate a
pet shop.
Students
will name their pet shop, decide on the animals they will sell, design
advertisements and commercials, and create their own business cards.
They will keep track of their businesses by creating a portfolio, which
will cont
ain
all of their work throughout the course.

Cartoon Camp
In
Cartoon Camp, students will create their own wacky comics and loony
animations. They also have explored a whole new world of graphics and
desktop publishing!
Cartoon
Camp offered students creative expression within challenging projects.
By designing comic strips and computer animation, the children have
grasped the fundamental differences between a cartoon character on
newsprint versus one on television or on the silver screen.

Super Hero Camp
In
Superhero Camp the children become superheroes in their own
computer-generated “living book” adventure by
defining superpowers, designing costumes, identifying sidekicks and
arch villains, selecting transportation and composing theme music.
During
the course of the camp, basic skills in programming, multimedia and
graphics are introduced. Featured software titles include the
award-winning, Logo-based MicroWorlds EX and the entertaining,
mind-challenging Pajama Sam in No Need to Hide When It’s Dark
Outside.

Web Design 1 (Basic)
In
this Web design course, the students will create a trivial online quiz
using a
web editing software NVU. They will create exciting and interactive Web
sites containing
graphics, animation and sound. They will also be introduced to the
basic of HTML coding (Hypertext
Markup Language, a language that is used in the
creation of webpages). They will also learn how personalised
graphics/images
can be created with basic programs like MS PowerPoint (or OpenOffice
Impress)
and MS Paint.
At the end of the
module, the group members will exhibit their completed Web sites to the
entire
class. The participants will also publish/upload their completed Web
sites on
the World Wide Web.

Web Design 2 (Intermediate)
In this
Web design course, the students will learn
skills needed to create an exciting, impressive Web sites without heavy
investment on specialised software. They will learn the concept of web
design
by understanding the basic of HTML
coding (Hypertext Markup Language,
a language that is used in the creation of webpages). To spice up their
web
presentation, the students will also be introduced to CSS
(Cascading Style
Sheet, a stylesheet language used to describe the
presentation of a
document written in a markup language). They will also learn how
personalised
graphics/images can be created with Adobe Photoshop and MS Paint. They
will then be introduced to a
user-friendly web
editing
software (NVU) to create exciting and interactive Web sites and Adobe
Photoshop to create graphics, layout and images.
At the end of the module, the group
members will
exhibit their completed Web sites to the entire class. The participants
will
also publish/upload their completed Web sites on the World Wide
Web.

Hardware Basics
In this course, the participants will be briefed on
the history of development of computer, learn some fundamentals of
computer and computer components. They will then be guided to assemble
the parts that form the CPU and installing the operating system. User
level maintenance and troubleshooting will also be taught.

Microsoft Office Word 2003/2007
The students utilize their wordprocessing and graphics skills to
complete a technology notebook containing nominations for the Institute
of 21st Century Technology’s Hall of Fame. The children are
introduced to basic wordprocessing as they enter and delete text,
change the text font, size, style and colour, adjust the line spacing,
and set new margins. Graphics skills such as selecting and inserting
appropriate clipart, resizing and repositioning images, selecting and
using different colours, using tools to create shapes and lines, and
layering objects are used to create a diagram of a telephone, an
aviation timeline and a take-home experiment. Additionally, the
Internet is explored to gather information about science experiments.
Microsoft Office PowerPoint
2003/2007
The students utilize their multimedia skills to create a slide-show
presentation promoting a travel agency, Frontier Travel.
To complete the multimedia presentation, the pupils must create slides,
add text, insert images, add sounds, animate images and text, change
movement timing, create hot spots, modify the background colour, add
background images, and insert video clips. To personalize their
presentations, the children record their voices, then link the sound
files to hot spots. At the end of the unit, the teams play the
presentations for their classmates. In addition, a multimedia
encyclopaedia is explored to locate examples of multimedia.
Microsoft Office Publisher
2003/2007
The students utilize their desktop publishing skills to create a press
kit promoting a revolutionary new sports arena called Frontier Stadium.
The pupils are introduced to basic desktop publishing as they create
promotional materials including a calendar of extreme sporting events,
an advertisement for ski jumping at Frontier Stadium, an entry form for
a team-naming contest and a brochure describing the stadium. In
completing these projects, they create and manipulate text frames and
graphics frames, add images, create page borders, align objects and
rotate text. The children also scan their own photographs to design a
roller hockey trading card and a magazine cover for the press kit. In
addition, the Internet is explored to gather information about
advertising.
Microsoft Office Excel 2003/2007
The students utilize their spreadsheet skills to conduct research for a
wildlife preserve. They will determine how well the preserve is helping
threatened and endangered animals.
The children are introduced to basic spreadsheet skills as they
identify cells by row and by column and use the spreadsheet as a
calculator. In the lessons that follow, the pupils perform mathematical
operations and create various charts and graphs to discover the
importance of maintaining a wildlife preserve. Telecommunications
skills are utilized, including sending and receiving e-mail messages
and accessing a Web site by using a URL. Additionally, wordprocessing
skills are used to create reports based on the spreadsheet data.
