In Premiere Issue, the students are responsible for creating a children’s pop-up computer magazine. They use their desktop publishing skills to revamp an out-of-date, drab technology magazine that is about to fold.
In Stop the Presses, your child will be introduced to beginning database skills while investigating a story for a newspaper.
A scientist claims that he has achieved a medical breakthrough that eliminates the need for nutrition, sleep and exercise.
While researching his claim, your child will sort, group and order data by attributes.
In addition, your child will interpret and analyse information in simple databases to learn more about nutrition, sleep and exercise.At the end of the investigation, your child will determine whether or not people will be interested in the scientist’s discovery. Then, the story will be completed in a desktop publishing program.
In Live from the Studio, your child will be introduced to beginning graphics skills while creating maps, logos and otherpictures for the Television Weather Network (TWN).TWN is a struggling television station that covers the weather on Butterfly Island. It is up to your child to create exciting weather maps and eye-catching pictures that will make TWN a hit!
The weather graphics designed for TWN feature everything from stamps, lines, shapes and colours to special effects, text and scanned images. Daily weather reports are completed to practice new graphics skills. In addition, wordprocessing skills are introduced as a secondary focus.
In On the Air, your child develops beginning spreadsheet skills while helping to start Radiokids, a radio station for children. The new radio station will not only play music, but it also will feature contests, news, sports and a talk show. Your child must help Radiokids decides what to broadcast. The basic parts of a spreadsheet, including rows, columns and cells, are introduced in activities focusing on cell identification. Following this introduction, spreadsheets are used to determine how many children listen to Radiokids, to discover the most popular song on the radio and to calculate the favourite radio program of the listeners.
In Now Presenting, your child assumes the role of a film director while completing and promoting FMI’s first film. Basic multimedia skills are introduced as four scenes of the film and a multimedia promotional presentation are created. Graphics, sound, text and music are added to the film, creating scenes ranging from scary and mysterious to surprising and heart-warming. The promotional presentation about the film is a slide show that includes backgrounds, animation, text and music.
